  Effective February 21, 2013  
  In response to recent publications examining the genetic changes that may enable currently circulating strains of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 strains within the Goose/Guangdong/95-like lineage (HPAI H5N1) to transmit among mammals by respiratory droplets, the NIH Guidelines have been amended to address biocontainment for such research.
